We added something very new to our schedule this summer- swim team. Zach was offered a position as the head coach to a swim team in a community near our home. It worked out great because he had the summer off, and it got us all around the water during the heat.
Teda was old enough to join, so she said she wanted to try it out. She hated the first week, but stuck with it and I have been amazed watching her swim so many lengths of the pool during practice like it's nothing. Especially considering she'd never even swam one length before this summer! She's such a hard worker, and she trusted her coach/daddy when he said she could do it.
We posted about it before, but we had a celebration with ice cream when she swam her first length of the pool (25 yards) without help or stopping. Zach was SO proud of his baby girl- he said to her "Never forget what you just did because it's huge." She learned that she can do anything if she works at it. As a mom I was so tempted to tell her she could quit that first week, because I didn't like to see her upset. But I'm glad we helped her stick with it, because she really had a fun summer with swim meets.
Her favorite thing about them was getting ribbons. After her first few races, she realized that the colors pertained to the place you get, and she really wanted to get 2nd. She ended up getting 2nd once and even got 1st once! But we really just talked about how fun it was to get ribbons, no matter what color we get because they're all beautiful colors and it's fun to swim!
She had fun, and we did too. Well, mostly- those swim meets are
H-O-T. What do you expect though, it's the middle of the summer, on a hot pool deck, in Arizona! The things we do for our kids... now I am wanting to say a HUGE thank you to my mom and dad, and grandparents for coming to all my games and events- especially the ones in the summer! Love you guys :)
Oh, and good news too! Zach gets to start winter swim team in October with some of the kids from the summer team. So that's 2x/week, and it's gonna be a fun time! So that means we'll get to go swim in a heated pool when it gets cool out- hard to believe a pool here in AZ will EVER need to be heated, but I know the time is coming!
