MMMM, Yummy... NOT!

Frosting, whipped cream, soggy rice, mashed potatoes, hominy, ketchup, tomato sauce, chili beans, apple sauce, fruit coctail, sprinkles, chocolate sauce.... what do all of those have in common? Two words... Mess Fest.
How do I even explain what it is? Well, each summer since Zach has started working at our church as the 5th and 6th grade pastor, they do something called Mess Fest. It's a review game, boys vs. girls, where they ask questions to each team (made up of the 2nd-6th graders) about the lessons taught the weeks prior. And in between that, there are games involving lots of yucky things that all get poured on, frosted on, thrown on, splatted on- the children's pastors. It's so gross! And so funny. And ends up being so smelly. One game that Zach was in was where a few kids from each team were chosen to frost Zach and another guy, Steve. They literally frosted his whole head with vanilla frosting and sprinkles. And the most creative looking frosted head won. Other games are really just for the kids to get a kick out of seeing things get dumped on the pastors- they sit in a little kiddie pool and just get the above things I mentioned poured on their heads. The whole front of the stage is covered in plastic tarps, and it's a slippery mess! After each service (they had to do it 4 times, once for each service), they would go outside and hose off. Zach was saying he literally had to turn something off inside his brain to not get grossed out by it- and he did it well because it didn't look at all like those guys were grossed out- they looked like they were enjoying it! It kind of reminded me of that one gameshow on Nickelodeon where people get slimed. Only this was grosser with more than just slime!
It was fun- I took the kids to watch one of the services to watch daddy "get candy on his shirt" (as Teda put it)... and they loved watching him just get all messy. Afterwards, they kept talking about it. And Dane would say, "Daddy, head, eyes, candy!" Zach really has a cool job- where else can you go into work, and do something like that?
