Colorado Trip- Part 4- Chirstmas Day Continued

In the afternoon on Christmas Day after the kids' naps, we took a little trip to the firestation to see Zach's sister, Courtney. She is a paramedic/firefighter for the Cunningham Firestation. She's such a stud, seriously. The girl just rocks. She had to work so hard to get on the fire department, and she can hang with all the guys. It's so awesome, and I'm really proud of her! We came bearing the gift of food for the firefighters. Apparently it's a no no to come and visit without food. :) So we brought cheesecake, chocolate pretzels, and the rest of Jesus' birthday cake. :)

We got to check out where she works (she had to work on Christmas, so we missed her during the present opening festivities).... and she let us go in the firetrucks and the ambulance. It was so cool! They got to put on the headset they wear to talk to each other, and get all buckled up in the big seats, put on gloves, and even try on her helmet (which made Dane almost fall over backwards becuase it was so heavy!) We had a great time, and thanks Court for letting us come and visit you!!!

That night, we made smores on Ron and Teda's back patio in their fire pit. It was awesome. We had a lot of fun. It ended with some tears though. Dane was roasting his own marshmallow, and it was so cute to see him do it. I didn't think anything of it, until he started waving it back and forth a bit much, and he got Teda's finger with the hot part of his hot stick. It was a little scary at first because Teda just burst into tears and was screaming- we were thinking it was hot marshmallow on her finger, but it ended up being the hot part of the stick that burned her. So our smore experience ended a little early due to burned fingers. She was fine after ice and tylenol, and a movie in bed. :) Zach and I learned that for some things, Dane is just too little. We just have been letting him do the same things that Teda can do because we don't want him to miss out. But when she was 2 1/2, we may not have let her do that. Now that she's old enough, she knows not to wave the hot sticks around, but he's still too little to understand that. So lesson learned- and I'm glad it happened at a house where we had the right things to treat her burn, rather than out camping. Live and learn! It was still really fun to make smores outside like that. I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat!
