It Was Inevitable

Dane is a total monkey. He's always jumping either up and down on the ground, or off of something that he's climbed onto. He's in a constant state of motion. And last week he jumped off the couch, and landed on his right foot wrong. He immediately grabbed his foot and cried a bit. Since that initial upset, he hasn't complained about it at all. But over the next few days, we noticed that he was limping. And it just got worse. Watching him run with a limp just broke my heart! He really looked like an old man with arthritis or something. And we poked and proded all over his foot, and he didn't say anything hurt. We couldn't figure it out. My mom thought maybe it wasn't his foot, and that he maybe was out of alignment or something from landing wrong off the couch. Duh! That had to be it. So I made him an appointment with the osteopathic dr that Zach and I see- she's AMAZING.

The clinic we go to is at a local university that teaches students to become pharmacists, osteopathic drs, physicians assistants, podiatrists, and dentists. And they have a medical clinic that is open to their students and to the public too. It's so cool! The clinich has a family practice, an optometrist, and this OMM clinic that we went to today. And they have real drs, as well as students that are just about to graduate working there. And they are SO thorough. They aren't rushed, they take their time, they truly seem to care about making sure the problem you came in with is figured out and taken care of. So I took Dane in there today, and they took great care of him.

They asked me all sorts of questions, they watched him walk (which took a lot of coaxing- once I mentioned that he would get a treat afterwards if he listened to the drs and did what they asked of him- he was the most compliant kid ever), and felt all around his legs, hips, shoulders, internal organs, watched him stand, the whole deal. They made many observations, he's high over here, low over here, this is out, etc. Then they began to work on him. They had him lay on his side, and basically massaged different areas that needed to be manipulated and helped back into place.

It turns out, he sprained his ankle a little when he jumped off the couch last week. And as a result, he was limping, and had a few other places that were out of sorts. His hip was pretty locked up from it, and a few other muscles were trying to compensate for the injury, causing other problems. Then they gave me a stretch I could do with him at home to help his hip get back to normal. When we left, he was still limping a bit, but it was better than when we came in. She said he's not 100% yet, and wants to see him in 3 weeks one more time. The body is so amazing- Dane hurt his foot, and his body did all it knew how to compensate for that. And now that the muscles are being straightened out, his body is responding to that. God is the Ultimate Creator, He made such an intricate and amazing body for us. So cool.
