Feed My Starving Children

Our church is doing a missions project with the kids, and it's through Feed My Starving Children. The kids can buy a mini m&m's container and fill it with quarters, then return it to church (that equals about $14.00, which will provide 82 meals for children in other countries who are starving- only 17 cents per meal... that just blew me away considering I'll spend that much to feed my family at a fast food restaraunt for one meal). So Teda has been interested in getting these containers filled to take back to church. One day last week, the kids were at my mom's house, and they got out my dad's change cup to find some quarters. As they were filling the containers up, my mom said, "This is so good because now we can help the kids in Africa have food!" And Teda looked at her and said, "The kids eat money?" So my mom explained that they don't eat the money, but the money will help buy food for them to eat.

How absolultely sweet and innocent is that? Kids just take whatever you say literally- it's just precious. So now she knows that the kids will get food with the money. It's such a cool project, and I'm glad our kids have gotten to help participate.

This has made me really think though about life. Why did my children get chosen to live in this country where food is overabundant, and other children live in places where there is no food, and they are literally starving and crying all the time because they are so hungry. Zach met with a representative from Feed My Starving Children, and she was saying that in order to quiet the children in the villages (all the children in the villages just cry all day because they're so hungry), the women feed them balls of dirt. And then the dirt tears up their stomach and they have problems from that. Not only that, but they have to buy the dirt they feed them, and now dirt costs have risen and they cannot even afford to buy dirt to feed their children. The whole thing just is so sad. And it makes me think twice the next time I say "I'm starving"... because I'm not. I truly believe that God has a special reward for those people who suffer in this way. He loves them, and is so sad that they are suffering right now.
